"You RUINED me!" Hawkeye screamed into the sudden downpour, teeth bared at a startled-looking Aris. Both were soaked to the skin in seconds. "You took everything I was, everything I could be, and threw it away so that YOU could get what YOU needed! And it worked! Because now I can't eat, I can't sleep without worrying about you! I can't leave your side for five minutes without panicking that you'll have another attack and for WHAT? So you can walk all over me? So you can use me like a crutch when you're feeling bad? What about me? What about ME??"

Aris' head had slowly dipped the more he yelled, wet hair falling into her face. When she spoke it was barely loud enough to be heard against the rain. "What about you?"

Her lifeless words shocked Hawkeye silent and he stood, flanks heaving with the effort of breathing against his heart in his throat. Aris shook herself a little before her head shot up, staring him down with all the power in her lithe frame. "What about you, little Hawk? You think I made you useless? You think I ruined you? You were worthless before I found you sniveling in your stall. If it wasn't for me the humans would have sold you off long ago. I'm the only reason you meant something. I'll always be the only thing you did right." The last words were hissed at him through elongated canines. Her pupils were blown wide in the dark and she looked half crazed, swaying on her feet. "You'll never amount to anything without me."

She turned away abruptly, strands of her wet tail slapping him on the cheek with the force of the motion, before she stalked away into the torrential downpour, leaving Hawkeye alone and shattered in the dark.

The worst part is, he still loves her.

And so ends an era.
Aris will be working with Kema on flat racing and with the General on anger management, while Hawkeye is paired with Angel for dressage and perhaps, if the treatment works, with Seraph for flight training.

This has been one of the most emotional, roller-coaster storylines I've worked on for a while, and it's more than a little sad to see it go. I told you once that I saw many, many endings for these two, some happy and some not so happy. Sometimes, they manage to balance each other out and achieve an equilibrium. Sometimes, they self destruct and take a lot of people with them. I honestly didn't expect this to be the canon ending, I was hoping for something much happier ;-;

He really was a fool for loving her.
